Community Inclusion Without Walls
Explore. Connect. Learn. Belong.
At Dukes Helping Hands, we believe meaningful inclusion happens in the community. Our Community Inclusion program provides small-group experiences that help individuals strengthen independence, build relationships, discover interests, develop life skills, and become more active participants in their communities.
The community is our classroom.
More Than an Outing
Community Inclusion isn't simply about going somewhere. Each experience should have a purpose. Individuals may work on:
Social and communication skills
Money management and budgeting
Making choices
Community safety
Healthy relationships
Personal responsibility
Exercise and wellness
Independent living skills
Employment exploration
Volunteerism
Self-advocacy
Confidence
Problem solving
Appropriate community behavior
Where Might We Go?
Every month is different. Community experiences may include libraries, bowling centers, parks, museums, nature centers, zoos, stores, restaurants, volunteer locations, community events, recreational facilities, employment exploration sites, and other inclusive community locations.
Activities are selected with the interests, goals, needs, and preferences of the individuals we support in mind.
Weekend Inclusion
Community Doesn't Stop on Friday.
Dukes Helping Hands offers Saturday and Sunday Community Inclusion from 9:00 AM–3:00 PM, subject to availability and authorization. Weekend experiences may include recreation, community events, shopping, nature activities, social opportunities, independent living experiences, volunteering, and other meaningful activities.
Small Groups. Meaningful Experiences.
Our focus is not how many places we can visit. Our focus is what the individual learns, experiences, practices, and enjoys while participating.
